Caveat: I’m not part of Omnia. I’m a user/internal customer.
Most people wouldn’t characterize it as consulting. It’s product development/management. We have proprietary software for a multitude of uses: org design, geoanalytics, project management, etc. Omnia develops, maintains, markets, and supports those products.
I don’t have a view on the validity of the complaints, but I think the summary is: we haven’t nailed the business model especially talent pathing. Specifically, Omnia is run as a fixed cost and not growing as fast as Consulting. With moderate growth and no up or out model, upward mobility feels limited.
Their offerings are really strong. I hope we land on a sustainable talent model. Unfortunately, sometimes the frustration of our support teams, especially around compensation and mobility, comes from comparison with our consulting team. I think this really is just growing pains and lack of maturity around the model, but it is also possible that we have decided that a higher level of churn in those functions is acceptable.
Someone was talking about a big dumpster 🔥 over there yesterday. Do a search and you should find it.
After searching around the bowls here, it doesn't sound like Omnia is a great place to be right now.
Certainly seems there are growing pains. Although the folks most vocal about it on here may be in the tail of the distribution. Hard to say. I’d encourage more research if the gig otherwise appears appealing.
Those posts are from like 2015-16 and wayyy outdated - they were at least some truths in them a few years ago. The same may be true for Omnia.
