Hi everyone, I’m in need of prayers. My mom was admitted into the hospital recently, but they just found some nodules in her lungs. Their default diagnosis is cancer, and she does have a past history of colon cancer. Please keep her and my family in your prayers. Nothing has been finite, but I can’t help but prepare for the worst & hope for the best. The only thing getting me through this is my faith in God. Latinx - help! We used this term in our diversity spotlight discussing Hispanic Heritage Month. One individual said that in English a group of Latinos would just be Latins to be gender neutral. I understand the word is controversial but is “Latins” grammatically correct? I assume we should just say Latin Americans, but trying to understand if Latins is also accurate.

Our team is about to recruit and we are trying to live our DEI values. Any tangible actions you can suggest to how we can widen our attractiveness to a more diverse candidates? Applies internally and externally. Thanks for any suggestions.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. My company (biotech start up >50 employees) are looking to collect diversity data about current employees to provide to candidates when they ask about the company as well as to investors. Any thoughts on whether this is industry standard? What roadblocks to be aware of? Advice on how to go about this as meaningfully as possible?

I’m interviewing for a newly created position, Assistant Director of Communications & Outreach in my organization’s DEI office. This is the first interview they have requested after reviewing my writing sample. They didn’t say who specifically I would be interviewing with, but said “members of the DEI staff”, and it will be virtual.

Hey everyone! Does anyone have a list of top companies in the US that are truly diverse and inclusive. I’m disabled poc and a recent grad as of December 2021 and I’m looking to start applying to other jobs as my current company has not been accommodating at all. TIA!

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

I find myself in workshops and meetings, groups of 15-20 people, and I’m always the only woman. In my entire department, there are no other women. I’m getting to the point where I’m feeling defeated and burnt out. I’ve been working in male-dominated environments my entire career (over 10 years) and I’m losing motivation. Any tips or words of advice to get out of my mental rut?

Do you think diversity training actually works? I can't tell if it's just a way to tick a liability box or if it's actually effective.

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?
