I’ve been interviewing at a few places the past month. It’s a mixed bag. One says they want me there in a year or so, one says I would have to relocate immediately, and the other is in my current city so no big deal, but they said that they do have flexibility for ultimately returning to the office.
I know I’m not creative but figured I’d share.
Is the money the same in these smaller companies in smaller markets? I doubt it but would love to know from someone who is FT remote.
Yeah I was offered FT in Atlanta, I live in a similar sized market but the money was very low senior when I’m ACD level. I decided there is plenty of permalance that’s indefinitely remote, there’s no need to bow that much on pay just because I hate going into the office.
Media Monks is hiring full remote, if that’s your cup of tea.
I’m sure it depends on the title. As an ACD, I’m sure they’d be open to it. I know an ACD who was able to pull it off at a really well known shop. The agency before them counteroffered with it too.
I’ve interviewed with them. They’ve done super well this year. Doubled their US staff. Plenty of that has been through acquisitions though, I think.
My company is full time remote. Feel free to DM me and I can refer you if there are openings that fit your credentials.

Although my office is coming back with no real wfh, they did hire someone that works 100% remotely from out of state. And she is great. I’m wondering how long until they try to coerce her to move in.

PS1, new york only have an amazing number of talent because they hire from everywhere, especially international. I don’t see that changing anytime soon, the city still (and will always) have an immense appeal to a lot of people. But that means that good people are everywhere and Nyc, LA & etc… only do better work because it’s where the money is. However, with production technology getting increasingly better, cheaper and more accessible it will become easier to do good work anywhere.
There are local production companies here doing really good work, including for global brands.

If you have a chance to live in Seattle you absolutely should. Most beautiful place I ever lived.
I moved to Seattle, but there are very few opportunities to actually work here. Trying to do the perm remote thing, but most agencies expect you to move so you can be in the office a couple days a week.
I was offered a Dallas-based remote role and I’m in the LA area. Part of me wishes I took it. Was a title bump but Not good work (mostly retail), but I turned it down as I was freelancing at a big name LA agency.
I was hired as a FT creative and had them put in writing that I can work remote indefinitely as long as I’m an employee there. It’s great so far. I would like to visit too in order to solidify the relationships.
I’m a 100% remote FT agency copywriter who is... losing their job because I wasn’t willing to move to NYC out-of-pocket to only work in the office 2 to 3 days a week 😕 envious of you folks who have been able to make it work!!
Recently brought up - I was hired earlier this year despite stating openly that I was only “open to negotiating” a relocation... and then came a somewhat contentious meeting with one of the partners who hadn’t realized I wasn’t just automatically down to relocate after a few months of working there... and then came a meeting w HR to negotiate a “mutually decided” end date
Grace period - 1 week
This all happened a couple months ago though and I still work at this agency (my end date isn’t for a while, thankfully), so I have no hard feelings about it now, really, (they’re a business, what can you do) but I appreciate the sympathy 🙂
I work freelance for Agencies and only take remote work, usually full time. Became easy during the e pandemic and has continued to be available. I will never go back in office
