There’s No way you come back from that leave feeling any better about your job tbh
Freshen up the resume :)
When your mental health has become affected, it’s time to make a decision. Things have already gone too far. I know it may seem overwhelming because your confidence has likely taken a blow, but there are jobs out there to be found. Take back control of your life and move on. I’ve been in your shoes twice in my career so I can say with confidence that you’ll never regret putting yourself first in this type of situation. Best wishes!
quiet quit
I took 2 months off using FMLA. I already have diagnosed anxiety, so I just had to get my psychiatrist to sign off. In most cases, you’ll have to do group therapy a few times a week, but you’re still getting paid 100% as usual.
DM me if you have any questions!
^I did the same and it was the best decision for my health. I had twice weekly individual therapy sessions, no group therapy, and my therapist was able to fill out my FMLA
Pro
I am literally in the same boat. It’s so miserable
Going through this right now. I was actually on vacation for 2 weeks in the beginning of April (it was planned beforehand) and was so happy to get a break but came back and immediately felt the same as before I left lol. I’m slowly starting the recruiting process and trying to stay afloat. It is hard but try to take it day by day!
I needed this conversation! Everyone is different and can take different approaches. Mine was unfortunate they let 300 of us go in one day. Well needless to say I was one. With 38 yrs I committed to this company starting from a young kid at 16. Wow shocker believe me. I am still on severance but looking back wow you all are so smart. I should have taken a leave and job search. Definitely would of had my ducks in a row quickly. But on the other had I wish I would have recognized burnout
I’ll die before I go unpaid
I was in industry prior to consulting and took about six months off around when I was 30. It was a planned sabbatical that I saved for and really reinvigorated me. I spent a summer backpacking (hiking/camping) and relocated afterward. It changed the trajectory of my life in a great way. I now have a lot more confidence to pull the plug if things aren't good going forward. Mine was a unique approach that I wouldn't necessarily recommend as a baseline option but it worked great.
I did for a health issue prior to unlimited PTO. Make sure if you do, that you pay your insurance premium directly to Better You or your insurance provider since there won’t be a paycheck to take it out of. You don’t want to lose your insurance like I did for a month.
Take action. The time off doesn’t help. Prioritize and strategize. Talk to coworkers and your immediate boss and their boss if possible to get more clarity. If nothing seems to work, you will need a new boss.
I was told “your network of consultants are your best resource. If you can’t figure out a problem in 15m reach out to them!”
That’s a load of bull. I realize now, bonuses are based on billable hours, if they don’t receive billable hours, why would they help?
I used to work 72 hours until I crash to “sleep” then repeat, until I went to a psych. He opened the option for me to take a few months off for mental health reasons while I still received pay.
Personally switched jobs from burn out. Ended up quitting the new job after 4 months to take time to myself. Giving myself 6ish weeks before starting a new job in a totally different role.
Do not let this job affect your life & health. Start looking while you have a job.
I have
Just take a PAID vacation. If you have unlimited, use it. Also, start looking while on vacation. No job is worth the burnout. Take the time you need and prioritize your needs.
Anyone know if it’s possible to get time off (not from PTO, that defeats the entire purpose) for mental health reasons as mentioned above, at KPMG?
This was the perfect post, feeling the exact same way. Hang in there, but try and schedule the time off. I just did and hoping that will help with the burnout and low confidence feeling.
Sorry you are feeling this way. I would talk to your coach about how to start having the rolloff conversations with your project leadership. Reach out to your connections for finding the next project.
