The best advice is to prioritize what matters most to you, communicate your boundaries clearly, learn to say no when needed, and deliberately schedule time away from work for your mental and physical well-being. Balance is personal and dynamic, so find rhythms and practices that fit your life and adjust as needed.
I'm not sure if my work/life balance is great, but it functions for me. I just make a conscious effort not to spend my evenings and weekends obsessing over work. That can be easier said than done, which is why I say it's a conscious effort, it's a boundary I have to enforce. For the most part I'm able to do that. I'm sure in some industries that would be harder to pull off. Plus, some people are just driven to spend all their working hours thinking about work, and, in fairness, some of them seem happy with that.
WLB is all about choice. If you're currently employed and your WLB isn't what you need then it's time for change. That change however might not come as soon as you'd like it. WLB begins with commute, most people don't realize it but you can literally burn up to 20 hours a week simply in commute time. Relocate yourself or choose a location closer to you, thats step 1. If you choose another employer during your interview process is your real true negotiation window. If you prefer to work 4 10's, 3 12's or a basic 8-5 this is the time to negotiate. If you don't like OT from time to time however, an employer will look down on that as someone who isn't committed to the future success of a business. You know your needs better than anyone else. My grandmother used to always tell me, pay yourself before you pay anyone else or you'll never be happy. Payment can come on various ways.
