I left underwriting insurance and went to radio. Then back to underwriting and left to go into banking. The pay for insurance was much for defined/ known and I felt compensation was well more so than banking. I just don’t know if banking compensation everywhere else is all over the place or just at my current employer. Research and don’t settle would be my advice.
I went through a couple career changes. I was a rig welder for awhile but I ended up having a family so I left and I happened to get a job as a leasing agent for a property management company. I enjoyed a few different roles and was able to learn a lot of the industry. When I moved across country I ended up being in a rural area so staying in that career was really difficult. I ended up in retail banking as a day job and opened my PM side business. Reflect on the things you want out of a career and keeping an open mind can bring the best opportunities. Good luck on your adventure.
Similar boat, been with a large bank for 17 yrs and in wealth management in a back office role only in my mid 30s looking to move into something different. After finishing my MBA in 2020 I started applying to local state and county jobs, other genre's like hulu, amazon, google, meta, disneyx and even tv production jobs (in LA) but in a finance dept's and still haven't landed even an interview. It's been very frustrating because I have stayed somewhere for so long I feel they assume I'm older than my age or I can't shift its been a rough road... still trying.
Investment banking?
I went into mortgage banking after banking. Now leaving to be a broker in mortgages so I’m S/E and have more control
Yes, self employed. Sorry lol
I considered a change to nursing, but doing the extra schooling with kids is too hard to manage with clinical schedules.
I’ve made my peace with it in the sense that I moved to a role I enjoy more that also pays more, understanding the plan is to “retire” early. My husband and I plan to buy a vacation property at some point and use it for passive income, and we would like our house fully paid off before I retire. I’m 33 and am hoping to be out as soon as my kids finish college, so at around 54-55 years old. I also am buying a travel trailer though so we can do lots of weekend getaways and we will be doing nice family vacations multiple times a year. I essentially accept the industry as a means to an end… it pays well enough to support enjoying life now instead of waiting for retirement and showing my kids the world. I enrich my time outside of work to balance the career stresses.
I did. I was in banking for 12 years and now I’m doing Financial planning w NYL, i got the flexibility and eat what I fish. I think is all about considering what your talents and attributes are first, before making a change. I loved banking because I was excellent building relationships and serving the community, so I translated that to a more advance and flexible career that I can manage myself because I started feeling miserable and stuck in banking. First highlight your personal attributes or qualities as a profesional, then think if you’d like to continue employed or your want to be your own boss, then based on the results, you will have a clear mind of the bigger picture and decide what will be the next step for you
