Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?
Tata Consultancy I am a manager in Capgemini... have an offer frm TCS. the designation being offered is Assistant Consultant.. 9.8 years experience( 5 yrs with Cap) Even though I am getting a package of 25Lakhs.. it seems like a demotion in designation.. Cg has offered to match upto 23.5 lakhs.. Is it worth moving to TCS on this grade? My primary reason for moving out of Cg is i m bored of beauocracy and WLB at current project. Is it a good idea to still switch with the counter offer from Cg Capgemini Tata Consu

Good sir/madam, the scope of this prompt is for Big 4
“Majority or Partners are CPAs and made it through Audit and Tax.” This is true for audit and tax partners. Categorically false and misleading for consulting. “I would expect in the next 5 years congress will begin the process of breaking apart their advisory function...it has been done before.” Also wrong. 3 of the 4 divested the consulting business following the financial crisis and regretted it. There is also no conflict of interest with existing controls. I also disagree with the progressive technology point — I do not think IBM is leading the way in many emerging tech topics. I think it’s great that IBM1 is happy at IBM, but please get your facts straight before you speak about other firms
IBM echo chamber
@IBM1 just stop. Your posts are extremely misleading. Big 4 are not accounting firms at the core and have not been for a very long time. Yes, their heritage was in accounting but across the board, consulting already makes up the bulk of revenue and continues to grow rapidly, outpacing other services.
No but I came the other way as an exec. The culture is very different. Primarily, the big 4 are pure services firms and ibm at it's core is a product company. A vastly different approach to work.
Keep dancing, 🐘
@I2 yea vastly different between products and services mentality......like big 4 consulting stays at the w on clients dime while Ibm has wonderful options of courtyard or holiday inn
People have made it from IBM to MBB, not just B4.
I did the opposite, from Big 4 to IBM. Keep in mind, they are an accounting firm dressed in sheeps clothes being an advisory firm. Majority of partners are CPA’s and made it through Audit and Tax. Only within the past 5-10 years has their Advisory business grown (they have done a good job with this admittedly so). Keep in mind there is a lot more red tape over there and are definitely not as progressive with Technology like IBM is. Also, I would expect in the next 5 years congress will begin the process of breaking their Advisory function away from their Tax and Audit. Too much conflict of interest. And, it’s been done before...
any big 4 is better than GBS from a lot of aspects
Any big 4 is better than GBS ..
IBM has 400,000 employees. A lot of people do different things. I’ll let others explain the work. Again, do your research on what the Big 4 is and where it came from. It’s an Accounting firm that is trying to rebrand itself. MBB is definitely more Strategic and Consulting.
Not once did I say IBM was better. Nor did I say Big 4 was bad. What I did say is that Big 4 is an Accounting Firm that is trying to rebrand itself. Please point out my inaccuracies?
I agree. Big 4 advises on technology but doesn’t make any. IBM makes technology and tries to advise on it (GBS). And again, Big 4 at its core was an Accounting firm. IBM has always been a technology company.
Please don’t mind IBM 1. Not only does (s)he not get Big 4, (s)he doesn’t even realize what IBM is. IBM is not any more progressive than Big 4 when it comes to consulting. In fact, it is possibly behind the likes of Deloitte and PwC.
Interesting. Ive found IBM to be the opposite - I see people very resistant to Verse or Slack
What about the work? Is it more decks or tech?
Gotcha. Well, thanks for your insight
Regardless of the measuring contest in here.... I think which firm you’re at depends on exactly the type of work you’re interested in and passionate about. It’s as simple as that.
I’m at IBM now and interviewing today with a Big 4. I’ll let you know!
Based on my research. They do way more than accounting. Their SAP Practices are growing and they are looking!
