I have not but I’ve made the jump from management consulting to tier 2 strategy (notice how I would not define ACN as tier 2 unless it’s the strategy division).
I also interviewed with a tier 1 this year.
Overall, I believe the higher you go, the more challenging it is, specifically:
• longer hours
• more accountability for your work
• more attention to detail
• less room for mistakes / lack of precision
Personally I am enjoying the higher level of challenge and it’s made me grow professionally, but it’s also more stressful
However, bear in mind that I specifically referred to the strategy division, not the whole of Accenture which is definitely not tier 2 in the consulting space
Actually fewer hours on average for me
More rigour in the work / approach
Stronger past work and capabilities to pull from
More intense / harsh on mistakes
Stronger (and more mentally taxing) feedback culture
Well, everything is of course team driven. Speaking in averages here

Many people do make the jump from tier 2 and from ACN (whether or not you consider it t2) to mbb. I would expect the true t2 firms to be similar to mbb in culture. ACN strat might perform some similar work, but with more emphasis on selling downstream work and more focus on strength areas like tech insights. Mbb has way less focus at the lower levels on sales or teeing up sales.
And ACN, at least when i was there, did have a higher emphasis on WLB that i wouldn’t expect from mbb. Also a more varying quality level of employee than mbb should have. Otherwise agree with what others are saying here.
But in general, to confirm, yes it is a very common path to jump upwards to mbb. Sometimes downlevel and sometimes lateral depending on the need.
I was an M at Accenture Strategy and joined McK as an EM. I work less hours on average because teams are properly staffed and consultants are better, but it’s a quicker pace and the level of expectations is higher. Happy with the move so far.
I don’t know that they are that much slimmer though. I have a good network still at ACN and I left in good terms, so the plan is to make AP and take a good look at my chances of making Partner at that point. If it doesn’t look good I’ll try and go back to Accenture, but honestly I’m feeling confident, I feel like I’m getting a lot of support in developing my platform for election and things may just work out:)
