I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Hi, folks I am working as market research analyst at a startup company for last 9 months. Currently I am feeling work is kinda boring and also there is no scope for growth and learn new things in the company. Is it's better work at the same company to gain some experience or leave company and join MBA course so that I will get better placement in big companies where I can learn new things.

I think you would have a hard time convincing the firm that you should have your last five weeks of employment be PTO.
Also if you’re starting another job in that timeframe, you’re probably breaking some employee policy to not be employed elsewhere.
That said, obviously you’re better off if you get the PTO paid and the bonus pad rather than just the PTO

It’s worth a try, but I suspect they won’t like using PTO to bridge to a bonus threshold
I think you're over thinking it. They put the don't work clause into PhD programs to make sure your focus is on your studies. Collecting vacation won't violate that.
Yeah that’s what I thought. I just wanna know if it is worth it for the bonus or just the vacation payout. Would the firm allow me to take 4-5 weeks paid vacation ?
Chief
Wouldn’t it be better to take the vacation? If you took 4 weeks of vacation, you’d accrue another 2 days. Hard to plan it the right way though (and of course if you’re going to leave, some people just gaa their vacation days to get the payout still, but that’s a bit unethical.)
Yeah. My firm already knows I’m leaving cause I got accepted into a phD program so I don’t have to worry about a noncompete clause or anything but that’s why I’m wondering which would give me a better benefit since my program is 4-5 years long without a nice paycheck
Why can’t you just work til the bonus pays out and get paid both your bonus and PTO balance?
A condition of my phD program is that I cannot work. So although I would be getting paid if I took vacation, it would not violate my clause since it would not interfere with my studies.
If you know you’re gonna leave, definitely say your PTO and get it paid out. If you’re not 100% sure then always use your PTO so you don’t lose it.
