Not sure if my story will be helpful but I left an Architecture firm as a CAD Tech to take a job as a construction inspector with an Civil Engineer that consults on DOT projects. The pay was better and the job was way easier with a normal work-life balance. Im starting a new job as a Project Engineer at a GC Firm next week for a pay bump and a few other fringe benefits.

what do you mean pivot out? pivot into what? into running a craft coffee shop? maybe you can find a job where you renovate coffee shops and get to know a lot of owners. pivot into becoming a personal trainer? not sure if that's really a pivot just a big change at the right time. in any case, identify what you want, identify what skills and situation you need to be successful, what you already have, and what steps you can take to move in that direction. figure out what opportunity would lead to success doing that and position yourself to be likely to land that opportunity. direction.

Is the SPHR or PHR license necessary to pivot into human capital? I have a MBA from a Top 15 school. Any thoughts?

I’m a manager in PwC’s human capital practice. I’m getting recruiting messages from the other Big 4, as I imagine most of us are. I’m interested in hearing about human capital consultants who went from PwC to one of the other firms, as well as people who came from one of the other firms to PwC. Happily ever afters as welcome as horror stories here. Thanks!

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

Are there any good PM certification that’s worthwhile? Not something that’s on Udemy for 2 hours of coursework.
Most “certifications” I’ve seen seem a bit superficial… but my current PM job feels like a glorified project manager role so I was hoping to use my extra time to study/earn a certificate to show my skill. If possible.

Can’t decide between reporting + technical roles vs corporate accounting roles. Coming out of audit and I like both aspects. Has anyone tried both sides and have any insights? Does one of these have higher salary potential? Does corporate accounting give you a higher chance of reaching a controller position since you’re actually in the GL, whereas technical + reporting will probably have you in a specialized group in larger companies?

I recently accepted a position at the company and have been working as a temp for the past 3 months. And unfortunately the compensation package is also lacking.

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m 5 yrs out of college. Any advice?

Everyone else that will be signing have a more senior role then me. Any feedback is appreciated.

I’m a Senior Project Manager at an engineering consulting firm - I don’t have my PE as of yet and my compensation is $100k + bonus. Just a bit of background, at my firm a Senior PM is someone with 8+ years exp. I have 10 years experience and on track to making Principal in a couple of months. I seriously think I’m on the low end of the salary range as a Senior PM. What’s a typical Senior PM or Principal compensation in your firm?
