I hired three women who had taken 2 years off after having kids. They were hired at a level commensurate with their experience prior to taking the time off and didn’t seem to have any trouble assimilating. I am a mom myself so I was supportive of things like needing to leave to get to daycare pickup and so forth so that probably helped somewhat.
Thankful to you. Wish there were more people like you
I took 2 years off. Picked right back up at same salary and title when I returned
I took a year off to be home with my second kid. It was a bit more difficult than I expected to get back to work mostly because I was looking to shift my career slightly. I didn’t end up being to able to shift on the timeline I had originally set for myself (I wanted to find a job within 6months) so I re-prioritized and ended up going freelance for a bit and later taking a staff position. I took off where I left off, position wise but increased my salary (mainly by going freelance but my staff salary if higher as well). There’s a part of me that wonders if I could have been in a higher position if I hadn’t taken the break but the time off was critical of our family so it was non negotiable.
I took off 4 years and came back at the same exact title and salary.
Why would you have to take a demotion and a pay cut? Don’t accept a job from an agency that would demote you or pay you less for having kids. You should pick up right where you left off
Easier said than done SAP1. It took me a year last time I had to look.
My advice would be don’t step out but find a place that has a supportive culture for working parents. It’s much easier to look for a job when you have a job than when you’ve been out of the market.
