Yes! I started out in accounting, transitioned to Manager of Client Finance, then transitioned to FP&A. Overall, it was a smooth transition for me, as I already knew I wanted to do this. Please, keep in mind that FP&A is generally more back office, with interactions and story telling with a lot of senior leadership [internal and sometimes external folks (mainly internal)]. You also get a flavor for diving deep into analyses that have been unexplored before [quite ad hoc]. Your work is largely dependent on the growth of the org and the company’s viewpoint of the overarching FP&A function. Does the company invest into FP&A, do they hire top tier FP&A talent, etc. If that aligns with you, then the transition is generally pretty smooth. I hope this helps.
