Disclose your conflict of interest to the client
So what you’re describing are 2 different things. You either operate with a 'referral bonus’ setup or you setup a strict revenue share. Most companies will not let you receive or pay referral bonuses. However, if properly licensed, there are ways to setup a professional alliance with CPA’s/JD’s that will compensate them. It’s 1099 for all insurance (non-registered products) and for registered products, the CPA/JD technically contracts with the company as a suto-employee. This only works if they’re willing to get their insurance and RR licensing.
Pretty sure this is illegal?
If they’re registered with the same custodian it’s doable - I believe - but otherwise I think FA1 is right.
It is not illegal. We have a program like this where attorneys or Cpa’s can share in a fee based program. They or someone in their office needs to have a series 66 and disclose to the client about the fee sharing.
I have no be able to set one up yet but I know a few teams in my area that have this. They will charge 1.25% to the client and the Cpa will get
.25%
Only do it on fee base business. Get them dialed in that it is a partnership and get them licensed. It is a retirement annuity for them.....no brainer if done right.....all legal and on top of the table!
I know this can be done with commission based business but I definitely would not even want to share my fees if it were allowed!
