Bad idea for so many reasons! You don't make a headhunter work who's help you might need later for nothing. You don't interview with a firm, rehect an offer if you might need them later. You don't blackmail your current firm with another offer. All not ideas that put your character in the best light. Burning so many bridges.
Get a head hunter to get a higher paying job. Going to your firm with an offer elsewhere and driving them up burns bridges there, with the head hunter whose time you wasted, and with the other firm extending the offer. When you get an offer elsewhere, take it and resign.
It's not blackmail, I am currently underpaid market value. I am willing to leave for more money and will but how else do you figure out a fair market price for your labor?
Well asking here can help - what area are you in, level, years exp, etc?
HBS has done studies and most think they are underpaid. That said I was underpaid and I interviewed with 2 other firms, got offers, and my current firm matched. If you don't have another offer, negotiating is challenging.
Not the way to negotiate a higher salary.
So talk to your partner about your salary. "What can I do to increase how the firm values me?"
It really also matters how your partner or whoever you're talking with reacts for example everyone who has said well this other firm offered me x my partner has said, great I hope you enjoy working for x and expected them to leave. He will entertain salary negotiations in every other way
How does one go about working with a Headhunter? I've never done it and would like to know for the future
What makes you think you're below market?
Research here and externally I am currently 30k below market
Anyone have any insight about my precious question?
I have and she said it would take two years to bring me up to market.
