What is the cost of attending the school like? Is this for career progression or transition? Target companies / network?
Chicago is nicer, cleaner, and more affordable to live in, but is frigid during the winter.
Nope. I do recruiting for Stern and lead it for my practice. I've also done refuting for Booth, and stern generally has shown stronger finance candidates. Booth has been strong for others. Location does play a role too. On the flip side, Columbia is not strong for finance (despite being in NYC), so it's not all based on location. It's also the program itself.
A1-- yup, exactly my thoughts. Regarding industry change- please read the latter part of my last comment above.
I see. Go Booth!
MC1- thanks. Did you go through the program? Could you please share your thoughts on why?
Thanks MC1. Not sure if that's a super useful statistic for me, but not bad.
P2- do you say that just based on location?
Thanks a ton P2, and P3!
P2-- thanks for your detailed inputs! I'm not looking to move to a hard core finance role, but mostly want to switch to the finance/banking industry later and do strategy & analytics work in that space. Does that make sense? Social circle-- yeah, that's always a tough call! Not a huge circle here as such, but will definitely miss some people!
P3-- if you don't mind me asking, what did you do before Stern and what do you do now at PwC?
I totally hear you P2- thanks for your honest responses, I really appreciate it! :) haha yeah, it's super difficult to decide, and I don't wanna get dissuaded, but these perspectives are super helpful! Thanks again!
Part time won't help too much in changing industry. You don't have bank internship opportunity. Also if you want move to banking later in your career, your working experience is more relevant than a mba degree
@OP rather not say but it's not at all related to consulting 🙂
Thanks P3 :) but maybe you can say what do you do at PwC? Don't worry, I am not going to try and track you down haha
P3-- Stern's website has it and their admission directors had told me that the part time students aren't allowed to go through the recruitment process. If that's true, how did the career center help you?
Whereas at Booth, the part time students can go through the recruitment process with the full time students. Just trying to capture all the essentials and take the best possible decision!
@OP - weird. I do these stupid networking events with Stern. I get plenty of part timers as well and they apply for our campus recruitment process. Take my word with a grain of salt. P3 might be able to give you a student perspective.
P2-- really! Wow, That's interesting! Yeah, let's see what P3 says. This is making it so difficult for me haha!
And that admissions director you spoke to probably meant you don't have access to full time recruitment and career office which is true but as a part timer you have your own process. Oh and if you do decide to do the part time recruitment process they are don't play games on deadlines. If you miss one for any reason, you're out of the recruitment process. So keep that in mind. But they want people who are serious about it I guess.
Thanks P3!
Anyone else with any thoughts please?
Thanks P2!! :)
