Yes I thought about starting one last year but frankly I didn’t because of everything involved (per the school) and it would have taken so much more time I didn’t have. I thought of a simple time for the kids to get together and run, but the school had other ideas once I brought it up so I dropped it when I realized I didn’t have the time to do it the way they wanted it done. I thinks it’s an awesome idea! Definitely go for it!
I tried years ago. I reach in San Bernardino Co, and there was no organization at the time. Students Run LA is limited to that county. Maybe get in touch w Roadrunners national org. Good luck.
I tried years ago, but "Students Run LA" did not want to support a school in San Bernardino County. There was really no organization at the time (14 years ago) that I could reach out too. And frankly, I am not knowledgeable enough to run a program without assistance. I would consider it if there is an organization in San Bernardino County that could assist me in starting it.

It seems like sometimes schools don’t really listen to the teachers ideas fully. It is a bummer.

I would love to start a non profit similar to We Run LA in SBC.
I started a cross country program at our middle school. There was a state organization and our high school xc program was more than happy to help. They send runners over to see the kids, work with them and act as mentors when they can. It has been terrific. Our town is a very active one and there are three big running clubs. I have volunteers from each club as assistants. It has been amazing.
