Exact same situation, VP tore my resume to shreds. Got the role, he’s actually a good dude and sent me a care package recently
Think about if you’d be happy working for that person. If they’re entitled enough to be a jerk in an interview - it’s going to be much worse when you’re working under them as an analyst.
Once you have an offer in hand - diligence the culture. Talk to junior people on the team to see how they’re liking it, what they’re working on etc. something I didn’t do when I lateraled and lead me to join a new group that was supposed to have a good culture too - turns out it’s pretty toxic
Is this person going to be your direct? If so ask yourself if you want to work that person.
Good luck
When interviewing for FT I got yelled at and called a bullshitter by a senior MD after getting a question wrong in the interview. Got the job anyways.
You thought he/she was interviewing you - it was actually onboarding 👹
The opinion that matters most will be the person you directly report to.
Agree. Sometimes they have other people talk to you just to tic boxes for HR.
Once I had 4 successful interviews then got reamed on my 5th for wearing a sweater and then hired by MD. Think there may some ‘testing’ in interviews to see how you might respond in difficult client interactions.
And then I promptly left 9 mos later after some sexual advances....
It shouldn't take that long to make a decision! Rethink the company!
