Not tech related but at my side job working security guard, I know a dude who works overnight weekdays who went to school for psychology. This is an independent living facility and he applied for an internal role for grief counselor. His manager did not recommend him because where we live, they’ve struggled to find good candidates for overnight security guards. Poor guy was content with his life still even though the manager screwed him over for his gain

Well I can see the thinking behind it, but it’s not a smart move from their side. If you have had enough of your current position, and you are passionate for doing something else, in order to keep you onboard they must consider your request very seriously.
Unless they want to stay with an unmotivated employee or they “want” to push you out.
Leaving an employee in a position that doesn’t fit their needs and wants is a wrong decision in most cases.

I've had this, my team leader wouldn't let me have a temporary role in another team because I am too good to lose. They let another team member go who is known for being particularly difficult.
