I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. You want "actual skills" for entry level? I've found it helpful to just try and get a sense that they're smart, capable, and will get along well with you and the team. The rest is in your hands. Leave the kids alone -- don't give them an assignment.
My favorite wisdom when I was interviewing for entry level roles was "we can teach anyone how to do this job, but we need to like working with you." Skills are great and all, but nothing I knew in college really helped in my first job. An assignment wouldn't have helped demonstrate my drive to learn and my dedication to the work. Once I had more experience, I did run into interviews that had assignments.
Not for social role but for a media role. Super helpful in finding good candidates.
Director 1, what did you use as your assignment?
Haven't but I want too. Consulting companies, tech companies, finance companies have you do a bit of work for the interview. Weeds out talkers vs thinkers/doers.
Ask for stories about solving problems similar to the ones they will face. Stories are very very revealing.
I don't believe in working until I'm paid (personal opinion) so I don't ask that of others BUT I do have them present to work they've already done and have a Q&A around it. For entry level it can be school project, for senior level it should be real, recent work.
No, but we did it for ops. We gave them links to videos explaining what ops was and had them take this easy multiple choice test based off of the videos. Surprisingly good at weeding out candidates.
Have never been given an assignment in my entire career so far and actually I'd totally not do one at this stage. Character Fit is critical after basic skills needed are there.
I've been given creative assignments as apart of the interview process. It was a simple mini brief to pick stock selects, design the same message for two different audiences, and how to optimize the creative across different channels.
