Virtual or in class?
We are actually going to have both. I will have a group in front of me and a virtual group as well.
We always parse the mods with 4 or 5 options and then populate the side cadres with the remaining students.
In this case, we don't have co-teachers or TA's for the other groups. I want it to be effective and flow cohesively, but I am worried that some are in front of me and some will be behind a computer screen.
I often use a collaborative document for online groups and ask them to enter their name in a different color so I can see their contributions at a glance. Give them a contextual problem and tell them to be ready to share strategies. The students in the classroom can create an anchor chart or four corner paper (begin work in one of four corners of chart paper, rotate the paper, add to or ask a clarifying/driving question, rotate again until all members are back to their own beginning spot). No opt out in either of these strategies. Then I ask them to share out beginning with least complex strategy to the one that nails the concept of the day. This takes a lot of culture building and growth mindset to encourage risk taking.
Thank you. I will talk to my team and we will go off of this as a base. This has helped so much. 😊
