Hello. Is there anyone who can tell me about the culture at Netflix?
I heard that before a video produced by Netflix officially launches, internal employees have a culture of pre-screening and evaluating the content.
- Is this activity official or unofficial?
- If it's an official process, do employees submit feedback after viwing? If so, how is it collected?
- If it's unofficial, why does this practice happen despite being unofficial? (What are the the motivations of expectations behind it?)
I had a show on Netflix. The internal review is usually the last step in the development process, before you get the greenlight to go to series. This is for the decision makers, not all employees. It is very official. If all departments (from development to marketing to international) don't sign off on it, you don't move forward.
All Netflix employees get access to a “preview” bar. Before productions are released to the public, we get to see them on our Netflix profiles. This isn’t us giving feedback to the company. More of a perk of working there. Yes, they may look at our thumb ratings. But the content is going to roll out either way. The preview channel just gives them a sneak peak as to how the production may do when released.
