Hi all,
Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.
Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Do an internship in a field of law that interests you. Join a professional paralegal association either locally or nationally. Start small. Good luck and remember…..we have ALL been newbies!

Agreed with the above. Also, can you pass a background check? What level of education do you have? I’d suggest starting at a smaller firm. Maybe someone focused on helping people on your situation or similar backgrounds.

I would apply to entry level positions such as receptionist or legal assistant to get familiar with the office setting. Figure out what type of law you want to pursue a career in and look for those jobs. Someone will open the door but you have to start at the bottom like the majority of us have and grow from there.
I second this. He will have to start as a legal assistant at the most, most likely a legal secretary- nobody is going to hire someone straight into a paralegal role without extensive continuing education and/or years of experience. Getting a job in law is going to be difficult if you cant pass a background check. There is a TON of confidential work involved and if the hiring company doesn't feel they can trust you because of your background, its going to be difficult.
Get a Legal Document Assistance certificate and go independent for a Superior Court in your city or county …best wishes friend 💕💥🙏🏾🫶🏾Congratulations btw!!!
Hi Larry! You're definitely going to have to take whatever you can get to get your foot in the door; that is true for anyone, not just someone who has been incarcerated. That might be as a receptionist, file clerk, runner, etc. I see you have posted several times below that you aready have paralegal training and would like to use it, and that is totally understandable. However, it is rare to just start in a paralegal position with no real-world experience.
A word of advice, take care with ALL of your communications and public posts. A large part of being a paralegal is the ability to represent the firm and communicate to those outside the firm in a profesional manner. This, also, comes with experience. You might try using some AI - type in what you want to say, and ask it to type it in a grammatically correct, correctly punctuated, professioal manner. This SO important, and often overlooked by those wanting to work in the legal field. It matters, whether it be email, text, letter, or your posts here and in other forums.
Here is an example as to how your post might be written to be more professional and appealing to potential employers or those who might refer you for a job, so you can see the difference:
"Good afternoon. My name is Larry Lee, I am presently 45 years old. Years ago, I committed a crime and was imprisoned for 19-1/2 years. I was released in 2018, and have since studied to become a paralegal. I am willing to take on other roles within the firm in order to learn and experience law firm culture, with the goal of moving into a paralegal position eventually. I would welcome any advice, and referrals to potential positions."
It would also be beneficial to become a certified paralegal as has been suggested below, Best of luck to you! My father was in prison for many years, I understand how difficult it can be. Kudos to you for your efforts, and don't give up!
