I have been working for a large corporation for over a year and I new to the company. What re peoples opinions about seeking a promotion or applying for internal jobs? Do you make a move or do you stay in position longer?

I think it’s always good to go for it. If you have periodic/annual reviews with your manager, you can say “I am looking to move into/become X, what do I need to do to be an ideal candidate for promotion?” One company I worked at there was a clear career path which makes it much easier to be aggressive and know what the next step is and what is needed to get there. I advocated a lot for myself and got 2 promotions in the almost 5 years there. If there are certifications or designations available for your field, you should look into those. Many employers will pay for or reimburse you for the courses, etc.

All my colleagues feel ridiculously happy, I’m the grinch one that’s never enjoying the grind (but the grind is hard and competitive, very competitive) :( any thoughts? Is there future after quitting biglaw so young?

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

An employer requested my college transcripts and HS diploma because they couldn’t verify my education via background check.
This has never before in my life been an issue.
I have a GED, (scored in the 98% percentile 😳🤷🏻‍♀️) and my college grades were 😳😳 nothing I would ever be pleased to share (went from straight As to Cs to Fs, then withdrew). I was honest about my dates of attendance and my lack of degree on my resume.
It took so much courage to send that damn email 😩🙏🏼 will it be okay!?

Job transition question: I recently accepted an offer for a new role with Merrill Lynch, the following day I was fired from my previous employer. I haven’t filled out the updated work history background check info yet. The reason for termination was due to performance expectations not being met. Should I reach out to my new employer and let them know that I’ve been terminated? Should I just put the termination update on the background check form and leave it at that? Wondering what I should do.
