So if I understand, we would get rid of affirmative action to protect highly qualified people from racist assumptions?
No. I don't think that's a valid reason to get rid of affirmative action. And I think even if you did get rid of it, racists are still going to racist, so they have never and will never acknowledge the qualifications of the highly qualified POC
At this point, I think it might be doing more harm than good when POC with the best grades and experience get into top schools and get hired for positions they deserve but are looked down upon because people just assume they got to where they are based on some schools or large companies affirmative action policy?
So You Want To Talk About Race is a wonderful book that helped me understand this (and other related) issues in the US.
Keep asking questions and doing the work to get answers from qualified ppl! No better way to live!
