Contd’: anyone start a new big law job post pregnancy as a mid? I’m concerned about the fact that I’ll definitely have to prove myself and impress people again which may not be conducive to having a new baby
May I ask what number baby this is? You may find after their arrival that you have a shift in priorities and interest.
Wishing you luck. I hated biglaw after my first but stuck it out because of the unprecedented times we encountered shortly thereafter. Once RTO policies went into effect I left. For me, biglaw really interfered with motherhood. Though, admittedly, I was involved with a very toxic group.
First!
What is up with all these stories of attorneys being fired during pregnancy and around the time of mat leaves? What in the hell are these law firms getting away with?
I lateraled 6 months postpartum to a new firm. It was hard, as you predicted, you need to stand out, rebuild your reputation, actively connect with people, force yourself to learn new things quickly, etc. I had to stop breastfeeding at around 6 and a half months (my original plan was 10-12 months). Still struggling, but my new team is trying to be supportive - no crazy workload for the first two months and be mindful of my schedule. I think my only suggestion is to do your DD before accepting the offer to see if the firm has a new parent accommodation policy or if the team seems nice to parents.
