Hey, coming to this bowl to ask about diagnosis and health care cover/providers?

What’s the general experience of getting employers to support with costs of assessments and or medication?

Heard it’s really mixed but hoped for some advice. Thanks

Usually, those things are covered under your health insurance. There should be a section for mental health covered. Usually, you'd have to speak to a therapist who would then recommend you to a psychiatrist. It might take some time to find a therapist and psychiatrist who you like. I like the app Doctors on Demand. You could start there.

I personally think consulting could do with more ND people…

That’s awful you had to hear that, though. I’m sorry.

It’s kinda crazy that two of the things you would be asking for are some of the bare minimum of what we should ask of our workplaces … yet somehow they would be considered “accommodations” in this industry (well, probably in most professional services commoners). Ugh

Insurance - never the company. You could try the employee assistance program as a conduit to mental health care, but I don’t recommend disclosing the diagnosis or suspected diagnosis to your employer. In rare instances if there is an accommodation needed and you can’t get it by asking for it without reason, then sure, ask for it. But that is the only reason to disclose

True, but I’d be equally guarded around depression or chronic pain. It can and does affect work performance. The workplace is - theoretically - a meritocracy.

Here is my dilemma: I was passed up for manager promo last year and rightfully so a lot of my feedback was definitely correlated to me not properly handing my symptoms causing a good bit of inconsistencies in my performance especially if I lacked interest. This year I’ve crushed it and switched up projects off of ones that I’ve long been on. The few people who “advocate” for me seem to be stuck on things that seem either 1) so unsubstantiated and show that they are too far detached from the …
