Hey everyone,

Honest question — why is it so hard to get a job in the legal field right now?

I’ve only been unemployed for a few days, but I’ve already applied to what feels like every position on LinkedIn, Indeed, and other job sites, and I can’t seem to land anything law-related.

So I’m asking recruiters and hiring managers directly:
- What do you really look for in early-career legal candidates?
- Is it experience? A certain certification? Networking? Timing?

You expected to get a new job within days of leaving your last one? Most firms aren't even going to review your resume within a few days of submitting it, let alone schedule an interview and give you an offer.

For the record, it recently took me about a month from the day I started looking to get an offer, and that offer was from one of several dozen applications. And I consider that pretty quick in this market, but expecting to get a new job in DAYS is a little unrealistic.

I've been unemployed since late August. Start collecting, you aren't going to find anything; hardly anyone is hiring.

Tons of layoffs right now. You're likely competing against laid off federal attorneys with tons of experience.

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].

I am working as SAP consultant for 3.6 years in same company now. I am going to make my first switch in one of the big 4 in SAP only.
The thing is that I don't really enjoy working in SAP. It was handed over to me when I joined my current WITCH company. Now I have decided to switch to Salesforce tech. For which I have already finished the Admin beginner part.(while staying in NP)
Please advise me if I am on the right track.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer?
