Maybe look into some asset management roles or risk based inspection analyst roles. Something to get you familiar with the different units in a refinery first. Then you can figure out what you like best and move into process or maintenance or manufacturing engineering roles from there. That’s a long game though.
What part of Oil and Gas would you like to get into? Operator or Services? Upstream or Downstream? Manufacturing or Production?
It sounds like you would prefer service and manufacturing vs operator. Companies like Baker Hughes, Halliburton and companies who fabricate separators and equipment hire manufacturing engineers. That’ll expose you more to the industry and help you determine which way you want to go.
