Hey everyone, new to the whole consulting world. I am currently 8 months into my time here at Accenture. I did not major in anything related to consulting, and I’m wondering if I should look into a MBA. Is it worth getting? What are potential benefits of getting it sooner rather than later? Should I wait until I get more experience under my belt? What opportunities are there for me to get it paid for? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

You may need specific certification to advance - ask your peers or leadership. At EY it’s a requirement to make manager with different groups requiring different ones.

MBA is not really useful since you’re already in.

MBAs aren’t worth much if you’re already in consulting. If I went and got one right now I would’ve get a promotion or a raise. Work hard, network effectively, position yourself strategically, and you’ll be fine. In two years you’ll likely be CL9 and moving your way up. Go get an MBA right now and you’ll come back in two years, with $100k+ of debt, at CL9 and zero experience. I’d take an experienced, homegrown CL9 on my team every day over one fresh out of MBA.

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?

I got a job as a infrastructure consultant right out of college 3 years ago and later became a solutions architect at the company I am at now. And suggestions on where I could get started on making this transition?

My stepmom threw me a very elaborate bridal shower. My stepsister pitched in and also did a lot of work for it. Bridesmaids helped but didn’t do a ton. What, if anything should I do for my stepmom and stepsister as a showing of gratitude? I don’t want to spend a lot of $$ but definitely want to act quickly and thoughtfully.

How do you deal with parental guilt when you have to miss things? When my child was a baby it wasn't as big of a deal as long as I was around for the big stuff and was pulling my weight parent wise. Now that they're 4+ everything is big stuff, and every time I can't be there it really affects them. I know being successful in my career will set them up for the future, but it feels like I'm letting them down right now.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.
