Anyone feel anxiety or stressed out on Sundays thinking about getting back to work on Monday? I get this feeling every Sunday, even when I know that next week isn’t going to be that bad! Any tips?

Yes.
Sunday Scaries are real.

likesmart

Yup, and it blows. I even got mad the other day when the bonvoy app sent me a push notification on Saturday to check in to my hotel. The Sunday Scaries are real and have the power to rob you of your time off. What I’ve found helps me is to unpack, do laundry, and repack my suitcase on Friday, and then put everything away where I can’t see it for the weekend. I also silence my work phone and don’t check it. This doesn’t get rid of the Scaries but it limits them to Sunday nights.

Glad it’s not just me. Also hate waking up Sunday morning with a reminder to check in for my flight. My brain immediately starts calculating the number of hours I have until I have to head to the airport.

Yes. And when it starts creeping early to the point where I don't truly enjoy any of my weekend, I know it's time to quit. One job was so bad that I started feeling it Friday night! (Only job in 15 years where I only lasted a few months)

like

I just remind myself that everyone else feels the Sunday scaries and if I send emails on Sunday night it will just enhance others’ Sunday scaries, so best to just delay send until the morning.

If you know nothing is falling apart, Don’t check your email till Monday morning. I actually make a point of not checking my email till I’m ready to work versus checking right when I wake up in the morning. Both techniques have cut down on stress / anxiety.

same feeling. that's the reason I'm waiting for collective disconnect.

like

Yes, you can remedy this by starting work on Sunday.

At maybe 4pm when they kick in, I take 30 mins max to right my to do list, plan my week. I then feel wayyy better that I know what’s facing me.

Then I have a Sunday evening routine that I love. Pack while listening to a podcast or audiobook, cook a nice home chef meal, put on an episode of a series I’m watching with my husband & were not allowed to watch in the week (Chernobyl, Big Little Lies all been good hits). Then go to bed at 8pm, so the 5am start is still well rested.

Saaaaame. This is just me, but I notice if I take time to work out on Sunday it helps a lot. It’s got to be a real challenge though - a sweaty spin class or a longer/faster run, not a walk or yoga. Endorphins!

Absolutely. When I first started I had this Sunday blue thing. Now I am beginning to have Saturday blue bc I use my Sunday to catch up.

like

Hahaha, probably not.

This was a huge problem for me...and it still sometimes is. I tried headspace, CBD, Xanax, bunch of other supplements/techniques. One thing I found thagmade a noticeable difference was 5HTP. You can get it at CVS. Hope you feel better!

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??

Do you all sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the self care tips you see online. Gua sha, sleeping mask, satin pillowcase, this body wash, that scrub, dermaplaning. I don’t know what I should do vs. what not. 😰 and I feel like if I don’t do it, I’m not taking care of myself and not going to look good a few years later. 😓

A majority of society tends to stick around to things because they are influenced by "enough" people doing something similar. Hence, they start living someone else's life instead of theirs.

Think about what you want for yourself, what's important, what you value. Then, ask yourself. Do I have these things? Am I living by the things that are important to me?

Inspired by one of my kids' favorite books, I penned this masterpiece of an Ode to Consulting:

Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!

Ok, I'll show myself out now... 😂

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
