0$ out of pocket on McKinsey insurance as well.
Since McKinsey is larger, you will have better chances of finding your niche of people with the appropriate wlb here. And many people have managed to create no-travel/local programs. And the general time to partner (full) is shorter vs BCG. And I disagree about cooperation vs competition - nothing at McKinsey incentivizes competing with peers (even SPs don’t get compensated on what is their just own client vs a group client. And McKinsey has a lot of dual McKinsey couples with kids.
Having said that you can’t really go wrong between the 2. Congrats on the offers!
Can't speak to McK directly but my read from a few chats with contacts there is their staffing model is likely to keep you further from home more often compared to our system model. I'm sure it's possible to prioritize being closer to home in either company. I've felt well supported in taking 5:30pm-7:30pm off every day to spend with the family though
I work at mck with a new born feel free to DM. Consulting in general is tough. Benefits are great. I personally find it hard to be a good parent because I’m only fully present on weekends. I feel kinda like a divorced parent so I plan on exiting soon. I find myself paying for time away like with Nannie’s, prepped meals etc. I did travel for a while and it was too tough on the family so now I try to staff locally which is easy in a big city. I log off from 6-8 daily and try to end early on fridays it works for now. I staff with only people who have kids so they get it if I want to make big appointment.
I'm pretty sure benefits are basically the same across both. I think the bigger difference is culture. BCG has less incentive to charge really hard and more incentive to cooperate with peers (less accelerated promos and less range withing partner comp). Ultimately I think this makes BCG better for someone looking to be driven but not aiming to be the fastest at all costs.
BCG all the way.. Having worked for both (no slight to McK... the 100% paid Healthcare premiums and 0 deductible, just better 'young' energy all around...senior staff very approachable (went to numerous parties at homes of partners) ... Still have a very big network at BCG.. Kudos to the leadership for building that type of culture at the Firm.... Especially at the NY office... 🥰
I’m not sure what McKinsey offers but the BCG healthcare package is incredible and 100% paid for in network. Copay is $5 so the inside joke is being able to have a “$5 baby”. When i have Rx fill or medical care for the family the front desk of anywhere will even go out of their way to say they haven’t seen anything like it.
I think WLB is reasonable here within the context of the demands of the consulting industry. I set less boundaries than others because I’ve wanted to, and have been fortunate to be able to, move up the ladder very quickly.
