Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)
I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!

The balance for me was an understanding that there would be no balance for 2 years then I’d leave
... Makes me sad 😅
Coach
Have a very understanding wife - though you just have to set boundaries (which is much easier being WFH). For example, I dont work from 5-7pm since it is my family time
Similar situation to KPMG 1.
Trying to figure out how to set boundaries and still look enthusiastic at work
(1) Have a very understanding spouse with a 9-5 or who stays at home, (2) try to optimize for sustainable cases, (3) maximize family time on weekends and Fridays by outsourcing house projects. If you don’t have #1, a nanny is a must IMO
No balance
Not a man, so you may not want my opinion.
However, I don't have a problem with it. My SO also works, sometimes as late as I do. We both regularly work past 7 and I would expect you will too. I find it more difficult to manage expectations and set boundaries when I am home vs when I'm traveling.
Luck is definitely a part of it. However, there are a few other things I've done that might have an impact:
- connected with many people early on and co tibue reconnecting with them regularly + asking to work with them when I am available
- go above and beyond by doing non-project work when I have time and interest
- work quickly and turn feedback into action immediately
- be proactive and take ownership of the problem/workstream (much more important to folks at my firm than endlessly working on documents)
- generally being a positive, pleasant, energetic person to work with so that people give me strong references (something we do in both directions before agreeing to a project)
Again, the luck of working with great people on meaningful but not super intense projects is probably the biggest one. And once I move to a project lead role, this may all change. I'm confident you can make it work; I hope you don't get unlucky is all!
Drew a red line with leadership and they supported my ask for a sustainable rhythm
This!
That's what I'm trying to figure out if it's possible.
