I moved from compliance to tax M&A and about half my team did the same thing and came over from core tax. It’s a good foundation for m&a work. Try middle market firms to get your foot in the door because Big4 might be a bit more hesitant without the experience. Not sure where you’re located but I’ve seen some positions for CBIZ, Kroll, baker Tilly & BDO in the northeast.

If you have partnership compliance experience, try KPMG. My office has hired a ton of compliance people with 1-3 years experience in the past couple years. For what it’s worth, they all are bright and seem to be doing well.
M&A tax does pay well, but exit ops are generally not as plentiful. Something to be aware of if you do make the switch.
That would make sense. All but one of the people I’ve seen leave are manager or below.
