As an indigenous LatinX I worry that if I put indigenous it won’t tick the “diversity” box for the algorithm or recruiters. I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? But my project is working only on back end with 10 years old tech stack. There is no front end work at all. What should I do?

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Question: I have a client who started a restaurant. He leased the land and bought shipping containers where he spent money contracting out to turn them into bars. I’m having a tough time determining how to depreciate this! First thought was leasehold but he’s not making improvements to a structure...he owns the structure! But nonresidential real estate at 27.5 years doesn’t make sense either as it’s not a brick and mortar building. Curious on others thoughts! TIA

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

I have a friend who just started a new job-went from a big ad agency to a small start up. The boss at the new job wants to create the company website to show generic work. No actual clients, just work with made up company names. They have many clients that they work with-but won’t show them online. I have never heard of this? Why would someone do that? Isn’t it counterproductive to show fake companies and work? How can they discourage their boss that’s not a good idea without offending them?

I cannot get an interview to save my life. I was so excited to get an externship summer after 2L with a small business and IP firm only to get yelled at on the phone a few times for not doing an assignment correctly. Mind you, I was working FOR FREE as it was a school connected externship. That made me never want to work in the law.
