Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

Oh, and non-Londoners who live elsewhere in the UK will gawk at even a 60k salary with no appreciation for the cost of living differential. You’re constantly made to feel bad for ‘earning more than the national average,’ or ‘more than the NHS nurse’ as if you’re the one to blame for all of the UK’s economic problems. People have a socialist mindset and believe that everyone deserves to be paid exactly the same. If that is not happening, then it’s somehow rich people (earning 60k+ in their definition) eating up all the money and not paying taxes (patently false).
When you give them a breakdown of your living expenses to show that you’re not living a ‘rich’ lifestyle and can’t afford a home, they’ll tell you that you you’re either mismanaging your expenses (buying coffee out) or that it’s your fault for living in London.
The mindset is deep rooted, anti-business, anti-wealth creation, anti-ambition, and very
‘who do you think you are / stay in your lane’ vibe. The taxation system actively encourages people to work fewer hours as the marginal income is severely taxed (60%+) at slightly higher levels (100k+).
I do love the UK though if you take this aspect out. It’s also a wonderful country if you want to do a normal 9-5 job, and don’t aspire to generate any kind of above-average wealth. It’s also great if you’re already wealthy here.
The reason people complain about low salaries in London is not b/c they want a higher absolute number, but it’s b/c relative to high cost of living, they really don’t save much at the end of the day.
I have a lot of friends / family from the North so I’m more exposed to these conversations than some other people in London.
You’ve articulated my thoughts on this so succinctly. I’m going to refer back to this!
Can only reiterate others. Don’t come to the UK! We are a sinking ship. Most talented people I know are trying to leave.
That’s your answer. Also other places pay less but also have lower CoL
And 130-135 base and 30-50 bonus
Can confirm that base range
