Man than sucks I feel for you.
Are you only looking at big name companies? If so then you should lower your standards. It doesn’t have to be your job for the next 5 years, but just get anything in your field to hold you over at this point.
I got laid off but wasn’t picky with the company as the market is so brutal. I got a job in 2 months and it was a decent pay bump of 30%. (I say this to show that a “no-name” company doesn’t mean a lower pay)
Check if there are contract roles.
Lastly, network with your school alumni that are in companies you want to work at. Look at your former managers or coworkers from big 4 or F500 and see if they used to work somewhere or know someone and can get you connected to people to your organization of choice. They don’t even have to be people you’ve worked with, just that have worked at the same place you have. Get referrals from them if possible. It’s really going to be your only chance of getting offers atm.
Thank you i appreciate this response!
I was fortunate to get a recruiter to contact me to interview for the role I currently have after being 2 months into my layoff so I am not strictly speaking from experience.
But lean into your network, people you went to school with, people you have worked with before, and just let them know. Big or small companies. Maybe you’re being too picky with salary but I’d rather you have a job then find a better one than go thru unemployment for this long.
Someone someway should have something that should fit your experience and then during the interview show you are passionate and heavily in the role.
thank you!
I feel you, in the same position but was laid off 3 weeks ago
Honestly feel for you; in this economy I also got laid off recently from a fin services firm and thought eff it let me branch out (using previous consulting role’s industry breadth) as a value add on and now I’m working in healthcare/pharma and loving it. I’ll happily say to be open minded about going into other industries, while you gain/continue building transferable skills to leverage later when you get back into it. I’m making a little bit more than before, am basically remote, and have 23 days PTO. Big bank before couldnt ever
