Hi 🐟🐡🐠. Currently SC at Deloitte (4 years industry exp, 1 year at Deloitte) with stellar ratings and a partner heading our team who really likes me. Will make manager next year. Now I have an offer from a very low profile PE firm and McKinsey. Both at associate level. Compensation almost identical (+20% from Deloitte), but PE higher bonus opportunities further down the line. What would you do? Stay, PE or McKinsey?

Please choose the PE offer and never look back. The launch pad even a small PE shop can provide can pay insane dividends in the form of carry further down the line.

Congrats on the offers! PE will pay the most until Partner, but the hours at any PE or MBB firm are brutal. If you’re young and don’t have a family, I’d say go for it. If you care about WLB, then I’d say stick with D as you are in a good place there too

like

First, think hard about what you want to do. Then choose the option that will catapult you the farthest.

If I were in your shoes, I would jump on the PE race car and press down on the gas as hard as I could.

Break a leg and congratulations 🎉🍾🎊🎈 on the offers.

you’ll make more money in PE than you ever will in Consulting - or at least without another 10 years experience. If you like PE I would do that

Congrats! What’s your background? Curious how you made the exit to PE

Got a message on LinkedIn from a recruiter which sounded interesting and the ball started rolling from there. I have a Masters in Finance, 3.5 years of experience at a family office (PE-ish environment) and 6 months I went out on my own for something in the crypto space (close to 1m in revenue before I decided to join Deloitte).

What offering are you in D?

like

Both options look great. Is the PE offer in the ops team?

It's in the investment team, but since it's a pretty small organization it is expected to be involved in almost all aspects.

I wouldn’t stay at D if you didn’t have to, but that might just be me

If you look at the people’s profiles in mid-tier to top-tier PE firms, it seems like almost all of them are either from T1 investment banks or MBB....

You’ll have better exit ops as an M if you can wait it out. But I understand why you’d take the money and run now too
