The best exits I have seen happened when clients approached the consultants. They know your skills and the negotiation power is on your side
Rising Star
I’m at a F500 Pharma client. My skillset and role aren’t specific to Pharma though (HR strat & ops/tech enablement)
Recall that the stories shared here also tend to be the outliers, as with all social media. Both the best and the worst. So for the many folks who make a modest exit with a modest pay increase, they likely don’t post about it. On the skills front, I agree with M1 above. Consultants are also as adept as anyone at figuring things out and learning on the job - so you can figure it out. And they’re used to feeling like imposters, so feeling like one in industry is just a lateral move that way too
“How will the skill set fit the role?” Has consulting taught you nothing about faking it til you make it? You definitely have the skills and you’ll likely run circles around your counterparts in industry. Take a leap of faith if you’re ready to exit and just make a move. If the role isn’t right down the road you can change internally or even externally. It’s not the end of the world. You’ve got this! Drop the imposter syndrome.. you got the skills.
