Should you use all your sick days?
Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?
PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express

Hello! Question for anyone that works at Google if I have hit my 3 applications per 90 days can I still apply to an additional role through a referral link? Or will I have to wait until the 90 days is up? Actually asking for a friend that doesn’t have this app 😊 thanks in advance for any insight.

Hello!
There are a lot of variables here, so I’ll just mention some common things to think about and you can determine if they apply or not.
* What does the resume look like? Has he listed other jobs he’s had that were not tech related? Sometimes listing projects is a better option when you don’t have a previous tech job to list. Also, does the resume list the technologies that he knows? You don’t want to over list here, but rather only list the key things he’d be comfortable having a deeper discussion about.
* Speaking if projects, does he have 2-3 he can list on his resume. It can be anything that he’s coded that he can do a little write up on and explain the technologies that were used.
* If he does have projects, does he have them posted online (i.e. portfolio site) where he could share links to them? Also, does he have a GitHub account or similar for these projects where he could share source code with people as needed?
* What type of positions is he going for? Is he looking only for Full-Stack? He may need to broaden the search to include front-end roles. There is a lot of competition for Full-Stack roles and most places will favor someone with experience. Front end work on the other hand there is a bunch of and sometimes it’s just repetitive work that a junior person could knock out. Won’t be the most exciting, but it pays and it’s valuable experience for the next place.
* Does he participate in any local meetup groups? There are a ton of different ones that focus and different tech and it’s a great place to meet people and network. Recruiters also like to go to these too as they know the people there are typically pretty passionate about the subject. ** I realize in the world of COVID this one will likely not be an option right now, but definitely worth looking into for the future. **
* Does he have a proper online profile such as on LinkedIn? This is a great place to list all your stuff and get contacted by recruiters. Even if it doesn’t lead to anything, taking calls with recruiters to learn more is a great way to get comfortable with the process.
I’m sure there is other stuff I’m missing, but those are some key things I would be focusing on if I was in his shoes. Hope that helps and happy to answer any follow-up questions you may have!
Yes, I would be more that happy to have a look at his resume. PM me and I can provide you an email address (I’m guessing PMs are available here on Fishbowl, yes?)
As for the remote work, I believe it should be possible to work remotely for a US company, but in full disclosure I have no idea legally speaking if there is a process or hoops to jump through to make that possible.
I am basing that off of a remote work site I follow where it’s very common for them to say the candidate can be located anywhere (you’ll also see others that say certain areas or time zones), but that leads me to believe it is possible at least.
That site is: https://weworkremotely.com
If he hasn’t checked it out he definitely should. Could be a great place to get some leads on remote work elsewhere in the world
Times are tough and it's especially hard to find a job right now, don't forget that! Maybe encourage him to pick up some freelance Dev work to build his resume, get some income, and give him some flexibility around the job search.
I guess I am not able to dm you 😔
