Word of advise. If tax is what you really want to do transfer to tax practice or get a tax job. You don't want to be someone like me who is pushing 50 and wish to heck I got out of audit long ago. It doesn't get better and time goes by very fast. You don't get to redo your 20s 30s 40s or beyond. Don't waste these years. Do what you want. Don't be the person that wish they did X when they had the chance. Even if it means a bit of a pay cut that is ok.
if you are a strong associate and they have opening then its likely they will make the move. would recommend approaching sooner than later as audit busy season is approaching and it might affect their willingness to allow the transfer.
Do it and do it soon. I’m stuck in audit now even though I also love tax
I really enjoy working at this firm, which is why I’d like to explore an internal move first, but I’m hesitant because I don’t want them to think I’m not committed to audit, especially if they know I may not stay in the audit team long-term. I’ve also checked the internal job postings, but there aren’t any tax positions available at the moment.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Watch for internal postings. My company has them all the time (also at Big4). It’s how I moved from audit to tax.
