Good jobs for introverts? So over consulting.
Hey there!
I am a Masters Student majoring in Machine Learning. I am in my first semester and I am kind leaning to explore Data Science as well. Could any Professional Data Scientists help me out on getting started? What skills do I focus on? What kind of projects should I have on my portfolio?
I have tried looking this info out in the internet but its all overwhelming. Hoping to get some honest guidance here!

The passion won’t be enough in an over saturated market so you’ll need to have a purpose as well. Combine those and you may get there.

Either go back to accounting or try to get a developer job at a bank or stock market centered firm. Programming can help you automate some of your accounting duties and you can upskill into data analysis and visualization (tableau and powerbi). You can cover a lot of ground and apply to a lot of roles.
A good starting place might be to talk to people at the organization where you're working now. Depending on the company, it's possible there could be internal opportunities. You might also think about what kind of work you're really interested in doing, and perhaps moving on to get some certifications in whatever it may be.

Bootcamps can give you training but they don't count on your resume. You still need to get real experience.
You need to find a way to use your existing experience to sell yourself. As another person said, look at financial firms.
Honestly bro, don't be discouraged 💪🏻. Yes passion isn't enough, dedication and consistent follow-through is important. Go contribute to GitHub repos, make a website from scratch, show yourself off in the world of coding without certificates. That's more impressive than any certifications when you continue self education AND make something to show for it.
Most of the time you will look at other people's code so learn to read what others wrote.
