If you see an open job posting at a company you want to work for, what steps do you take to apply? I’ve been told that cold applying and making no contacts is usually not going to lead to anything, and that’s been true in my experience. But should I reach out to someone first? Should i apply and then email someone? In HR? Or someone who’d be directly supervising me? Or someone at my level? And what should i say? Thanks!

Where do you keep your non-library original components in Figma? Do you put them to the side outside of a working frame, within its own “Components” page (like Sketch does for Symbols), or do you keep the original directly inside of one of your layouts?

Question! I just moved(transferred) to another team of my company and received new title, graphic & creative services. I was a senior graphic designer at the previous team. What do you think about my new title? I wanted to share that I am in my first job as ui/ux expert and I am the only ux/ui person in the team. I am expected to take care of entire research and design of the product. It becomes very overwhelming as the product that I am working on is in a early phase and I am expected to think about ui as well as ux and also design entire app on my own.There is no user interview or user testing happening as my project manager thinks it can be done after product is launched. Please help!

I started out as a graphic designer. Worked for about 4yrs in different roles. Then i started a digital design role for 2 yrs and then made my transition into ux. i have been in a ux role for 5 years. But i want to steer my career towards something more creative. Like in 5-10 years I wouldn’t want to be a specialist or a ux director. I d like to be an art director or creative director. I love branding & marketing but also product. Would love something that allows me to do both?

Any book recommendations for soft skills at an agency/studio? For stuff like giving feedback, meetings, presentations, client interaction, etc.

How can one transition from a Visual/graphic designer in marketing to a product designer? And what’s it like being a product designer w a visual design background? Hey fishies! I’m looking to take a leap into the remote world. I am a Sr. Graphic designer and art director in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦. I’m looking to take on more of an art director and creative director role, remotely. I can attach my website and a portfolio if anyone can help out. I have been designing professionally now for just over 15 years now. I work very quickly and very well with other team members. I also take on freelance work. I’m married with 2 kids so the more work the better.

Any advice on doing pro bono design work for nonprofits? I’m considering offering some work to a local nonprofit I believe in, but I’m not sure what kind of boundaries to set, how to approach them, etc. would love advice!

Is $90k - $100k a reasonable salary range for a senior visual designer with 9 years of experience at a tech company? I’m seeing a lot of varying numbers, and trying to consider inflation as a possibility.

Im working at a big multi-product company and we're having 5 dedicated product teams, however, teams are working in silos. Each team's has its own process, design system, technology etc. We identified that most of the teams use and need components that were already conceptualised, designed and developed, for our other products, and we are starting to create a global set of components, a global design system that we will use on all our products. What is your approach?
