Hi Everyone, I’ve worked in the Food Service Industry since I was 12. I’m currently 53. I’ve done everything from dishes to manager. However this past year my auto immune condition has made the physical aspects of my career painful and difficult. It’s all I’ve ever known.

Does anyone have a suggestion for converting my knowledge to a work from home / work from anywhere / online position ? I’m old school and finding it difficult to finding a position that doesn’t require a computer degree.

I'm really sorry that your job is causing you pain and difficulty. I hate to hear that for you. Unfortunately, a lot of work from home positions end up being scams. So if you do look online for them, just be careful and keep your head on a swivel in case they ask you to send money or deposit a check before you start. You could check on online websites like Fiverr and Upwork for possible freelance opportunities, but they can honestly be tough to break into without experience or a portfolio. Could you look into something like maybe being a hotel front desk manager, or a customer service representative? I'm sure you have great people and interpersonal skills, and those jobs tend to be more sedentary/desk work.

Thank you Server 1.. I appreciate the concern. I’ve applied for so many customer service positions. Most of those positions seem to be pointed at a specific computer program.

Have you looked into remote customer service roles? Your skills would translate well and that might be something you would be really good at. Best of luck to you.

Do you think culinary school is worth it? I've been a waiter for a year but really want to be a chef. The people I work with say to just start in the kitchen and work my way up but I think culinary school might get me where I want to be faster. The cost is pretty insane though. Any advice?

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

If I should negotiate, any tips?

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
