Looking to exit from 195k base to a sales role base 140 + 40 in guaranteed bonus year 1 to make up for the lengthy sales cycle. I know in the long run total comp through equity and sales commission bonus can be much higher but having a hard time making the jump… mostly my ego to drop drastically in TCO the first year after spending all these years trying to increase base. Still interviewing - unicorn saas account exec. What would you do?

My friend, not a great time to be jumping into a sales role right now

like

All pipelines are disappearing quickly , don’t jump now, wait for 6 months for the complete picture on recession unless your current company is laying you off…

Have you already tried to negotiate a higher base?

Unofficially was told that’s what it is. When I get to negotiations i definitely plan on trying.

Selling what?

Supply chain planning technology.

My example is different, but I joined a startup and took a cut in pay in exchange for equity. That definitely didn’t work out for me! That said, I would weigh the risk / upside trade-offs. Is the upside you could realize from a “high” scenario in year 2 worth taking the risk (short-term lower pay)? Personally, I would want there to be decent upside potential in order to compensate for the short-term pain of having lower pay and the risk that higher pay may not materialize

High scenarios I’ve heard of are incredible but also need to master the sales skill set to think of those numbers. Average scenario in year 2 would make up for year 1 pay cut for sure and then some. Equity is just cherry on top with 4 year vest, potential ipo.

I got a job offer as a Tax Associate at PwC. I want to negotiate the salary but the HR said he cant just increase my salary since that would be unfair to other associates. The only thing he can do is to ask to compensation team and if the team approve, every in-coming associates would get a salary increase. Is that true?
