You just try to learn as much as you can from the experience and keep moving forward; it's all we can ever do in the face of failure. 7 rounds is crazy though, these hiring processes are getting out of hand.
For an executive role I’ve had up to 12
I am so bummed on your behalf. Going through 7 rounds is a huge accomplishment in itself. This experience has prepared you for even better role suited for you in future. The soft skills you’ve learned subconsciously are valuable and will come handy at the right opportunity. So all in all…great work at getting to the 7th round. Best wishes for your future success.
Exactly what I tell my daughter interviewing for new grad roles. She aces 2 technical interviews and they come back with ok you have moved to the final round which is 2 more technical screens.
Like anything else in life, learn from it, fail and move on, try again in the future. If it’s your dream then get a different job for now, get better, come back later on
I’m extremely proud of you. The fact that you made it that far means you were an elite candidate and they had to make a tough choice. This is the time to double down on applying for roles. It’s inevitable that once you get in front of the hiring team you will be viewed as a rock star.
My tip is to always place yourself in the position of the interviewer. As if you’re a consultant trying to identify how you can help solve their problems. They need your services to succeed. Have 5 really thought provoking questions that you’ll ask them at the end of the interview.
People can sense when your energy is desperate to join their organization. You want them instead be afraid that they can’t move forward without you.
7 rounds and then to be told no? Clowns are running that place. If anything, you dodged a bullet.
Right!
Seven rounds, holy crap! I'm sorry about that. Unfortunately, for every person who gets a job, hundreds don't at this point. It's such such a bummer, but keep going!
Remember that It’s not personal! And you can try again. But it’s normal to feel hurt and strung along and disappointed and angry. You’ll look back soon and see it just wasn’t meant to be!
Perhaps decide where you want to spend your time. 4 rounds should be the max. After that it’s on them if they don’t know. Always assume you didn’t get the role no matter how well it went. It will save you some disappointment. Been there!
Been there… 3x in the past 5 months. Allow yourself to grieve for a day or so and then dust yourself off and get back in the saddle.
If it was meant to be it wouldn’t have passed you by.
There is something better waiting for you.
Good luck!
7 rounds should be illegal. Anything more than 3 and it’s a waste of time. Sorry you had to go through that.
Happened to me, picked myself up and within 4 months another opportunity came within the same target company and this time I cleared all the rounds, got the offer and joined. I did leave that company as well in 2 years so remember dream company may not be a dream once you join. Anyways not trying to to bust your bubble but just saying that try again and it may happen
Just lean forward and move forward, honestly. That’s all you can do. It’s really just a big ass numbers game at this point. Take what you’ve learned, and move on friend.

Stop at 2-3 rounds next time. Rest assured the universe has a better path for you. Keep on advancing your self and you'll land something to keep you moving on your journey.
Happened with me just a few weeks back. I was laid off from my current organization, and I was already devastated. Then I got my resume selected for one of the FAANG, companies, went through the 7 rounds(5 technical and handson coding, 1 system design and 1 behavior, work style assessment). And I think I really did well on all of them. The process took 1.5 months, being laid off for that time, I didn't even apply elsewhere, put all the time on this and while I waited for the final results I was like 98% sure I am getting it. As I solved all the coding rounds like 100% and my system design went really well. And at the end I just got a call that unfortunately we are not moving forward and when asked for the feedback, they said not allowed to tell you anything more. I wanted to burn the place to the ground, couldn't eat, was stressed out so much, being laid off with so many responsibilities on my shoulder, thinking about making next month's rent, I couldn't eat for days after the result. But as time passes, I am sure you'll feel right. Everything happens for the best (mostly as they didn't even provide any feedback or one line even).
Just went through this myself, you just dust yourself off and push forward
Firstly, kudos to you for that many rounds of interviews! That being said if it's genuinely your dream job, my suggestion would be to start applying to their competitors. You’re well prepared for the next interview!
I understand where you are coming from, I recently when through the same interviewing process and needless to say I to fell short. But you learn from it and move on. Don't let it eat you up, there is something better out there for you! So don't stress, tomorrow is another day to be successful!
You managed to get through seven interviews among many applicants. Some failed at the first, second, third, etc. The best would be to have a “no regrets, lessons learned” attitude and move on. You’ll be alright.
Go out and enjoy your time with friends. See a beautiful movie and do whatever you like most. Think that your dream job is coming. It was not that one. Have fun and you will have the best job ever soon. 🫶🍀
The same thing has been happening to me over and over again! I have over 24 years of executive assistant experience and I have come to the conclusion that I have outgrown this line of work— it’s time for me to expand on my inner creativity and this realization has has helped me to become a more authentic version of myself. I appreciate my small and generally insignificant victories; I am working through the incessant imposter syndrome, ruminations, continuous chameleon BPD variations, and I am ready to pursue something that I actually enjoy and would like to wake up to other than getting s*** faced drunk and waking up naked in random peoples beds naked with regret. Rather than engaging in another tech company that offers unlimited PTO that I will never get to use, I am now pursuing this time to allow myself to be imperfect. This is my opportunity to find strength in the instability, the unknown, extreme vulnerability, and a delicious surrendering of my life force to a deeper inner creative voice from now on. While ChatGPT is a great segway to logically identify my weaknesses, and perhaps replace me entirely, I am ready to embark on the challenges it presents therein. Buh-bye to being a great listener, someone you regard as emotionally intelligent, caring or giving a f**** about being a strong gatekeeper of time, processing expense reports from 2002, wearing 20 hats while rocking my stilettos, building out your office and initiating Certificates of Insurance, setting up the IT infrastructure, negotiating for Apple’s 10% discount, assembling furniture with a Phillips screwdriver, hosting all the bougie friends for oysters and personally curated happy hours with handpicked wine and cheeses from the local farms.. bla bla bla.
Love this! Not for what you went through so much as where you’ve ended up mentally and emotionally to be able to boldly express yourself. That said a lot about who you are and, in my mind at least, that you’d be a great teammate in many roles. Attitude is key. Here’s to landing what you’re looking for…
