It really depends on your function and role. Like you said, it's a manager level certification. It differentiates you and gives you an edge when you are looking out for M+ level jobs.
It also depends on function because a CISSP will provide much more value for someone working in GRC as compared to lets say someone with appsec background.
Depending on your current role and skill sets you can use the CISSP to either get a salary bump in your existing org or try to switch to a role/ company which values CISSP.
In my personal experience I have seen that industry values CISSP more than consulting companies.

It depends on what your expectations are. What do you think the cissp will do for you?
To get the certificate you have to apply for it and pay a higher fee.
You can coast for 5 to 6 years at a lower cost by just clearing the exam
