If it's only a matter of weeks, why not wait until after the bonus to hand in your notice?
Pro
My new employer needs a specific start and I’ll be 2 weeks out of that if I wait till after payouts but might need to just try and negotiate a short notice period if that’s even possible
It typically will. If you have evidence of how much you’re eligible for, you can ask the new employer for a sign on bonus to compensate but they’ll probably be happy to delay your start date by two weeks. Just don’t lie about the bonus as you can have the offer withdrawn.
Yes
Check your bonus policy. In my firm it explicitly says that if you are under notice on the bonus payout date, they withdraw the bonus.
As PwC1 said, if the start date is so critical for your new employer, tell them how much bonus you’re likely to lose due to that and ask them to compensate via sign on
