Unsure where D1s hate is coming from. OPs questions are part of research.
Why not just live in India? What’s compelling finding a new home away from your real home? You can always visit other destinations on vacations.
That’s not on the cards for now. Thanks for your input though.
Do you speak Spanish ?
I don’t doubt your experience, I just find it extreme and not the norm. My personal (very qualitative) datapoints are from having lived in England, Belgium, Switzerland, and Netherlands in my formative years. We (husband and I) have been settled in Sweden for the past decade. Sidenote: Went to business school in the US and worked there for 6 years.
I don’t know what datapoints to show that people in Netherlands don’t hate on English speakers.
What I can elaborate on was that I felt incredibly integrated into each of the cultures in the European cities. We were invited to the homes of local friends during local holidays each of the years, something that I cannot claim in the US. I found men were very open to dating me (a brown South Asian woman) in European cities. We now have Swedish families that are like a family to us - this includes their mums & dads. Husband and I celebrate each Swedish tradition with the same joy as our Indian traditions - this would have been impossible for us to do if we were not embraced by the Swedes.
I’ve met far more number of Europeans who have visited India (not for work) than Americans.
So those are my very qualitative datapoints.

Are you planning to work in Barcelona? I just don't understand how you can just move to Spain? I have worked in Madrid for 4 years but this was because my employer wanted me to move from Basel to the Madrid affiliate. You need to be with the employer for 3 years before they can file for your visa which is again valid for 12 months. I don't think it's a decision you can just take by I want to move closer to India, so let's work in Spain... Unless ofcourse, you have blue card which again doesn't seem the case. In addition, the Spanish affiliate needs to have sales to sponsor international work visa. You can't work in Schengen visa which has long been abused by Indians and now in last year, more and more folks have landed in trouble for over staying on Schengen visa. Happy to actually share what it was like to stay both in BLS and Madrid but that's really secondary! If you have the wot permit from Spanish affiliate, that is main primary question
Thank you so much! First of all, never heard negative Martha before so thanks for the chuckle! It’s a consulting firm - so they are headquartered in the US but have offices all over the world. They would hire locally as well but imagine it’s still small-ish. It’s great to know you work for a pharma company. I am in pharma consulting :)
Good to know about Madrid as well. Thanks so much!
Money wise outside of US, the only place that makes more sense is India
It's not what makes sense anymore. It's about who wants us on work visa anymore. The whole BS about highly skilled is not the case anymore. Even Philippines is kicking off folks with Indian passport. True story, my cousin was with Philippines shipping company, working in Manila for almost 5 years, in the engineering department and had to move back to India because alien employment applications are getting rejected left, right and center! This has been the problem for far long, and other countries have had enough of immigrants...
OP: if you are open to UAE, look at some VC opportunities. My world is very narrow, and I have never worked in any field expect pharma, and if this something anyone has experience or enjoys, I am noticing a real upward trend in biotech VC opportunity in UAE. Lots of JP and SG firms are getting lot of traction from UAE based VC which was very very limited till 2 years ago.
