Hi! I am trying to make the switch from being a legal secretary to a patent agent.

Has anyone here successfully done something similar, or entered patent agency field without having work experience in engineering or other science related field?

I am currently complimenting the science courses required to qualify for the USPTO exam, and wondering about the chances a successful career switch.

I got into Management a year ago and now I miss developing. How do software engineers turned managers feel about their switch over to people management?

If i get lowballed package with good learning curve. Is it better idea to stick to it for next eight month and make another switch to recover the loss? Or should I search better job ? I have only 20 days left in notice

I have been a software developer (professionally) for about 7 years now, but I’ve decided to move out from that job and do something else (still in tech).
I don’t know yet what to do exactly, but I know I just don’t want to be only writing code every day.
Tbh, I am scared. But I have set myself one year to learn something new.
I also want to go for a job that pays more (55k€ currently). I live in Paris, France, and software developers are not well paid.
Any suggestion for a career transition?

I have just started my journey in Salesforce and I have started working on Salesforce Vlocity. Order management to be specific. I wanted to know what are the opportunities and what kind of job market is there in Salesforce/Vlocity.

Also is it good for learning to start off with Vlocity/Order Management right off cause it is a bit confusing for me.

How many billable hours do people in prosecution tend to average each month? I’ve gone through waves of feeling like my billable hours requirement is reasonable to feeling like I’m drowning and can’t possibly do it for that long.

First year associate thinking about making the just from medium sized reputable IP firm to In House. Started at said firm summer of 1L year as a law clerk/patent agent in May 2019, have worked through school and full time as associate since Sept 2021. Feeling very “stuck” in day to day work. Love the patent/IP space but drafting and pros w/minimal human interaction is getting very difficult. Thinking In House would be better, but not sure how much experience needed. Thoughts?

I am working on a NFOA for a design case. The Examiner identified a primary references and four secondary references. The Examiner also pointed out five differences between the primary reference and the claimed design. For the reply, I found nine additional differences between the claimed design and the primary reference, two of which are not present in any of the cited references. Taking the patent bar in a week and it’s been so tough studying while working. I’m so behind in my hours this month, and my firm (midlaw, IP only) was pretty clear that they expect my hours to stay on track this month regardless of the exam. Bit of a niche topic: I’ve been in TS/SCI processing for a Science/Tech/Weapons analyst position with the CIA for 3 yrs since I finished grad school in chemistry, but CIA positions are sort of set it and forget it since they can take so long. I’ve since been focused on a Patent Attorney track and am with a firm that will support me taking the patent bar/law school. If I get through processing and go to the CIA for some time, do you think would I be accepted back into patent law later on?

In prosecution, if a patent attorney does not try to remove prior art cited by an examiner (eg a 130 affidavit to assert an exception under102(b)(1)(A)), but instead makes arguments to overcome the art, may the attorney made an admission that bars removing the art later in prosecution.
