Both my friend and I were in the same situation. And we took the better offer. Life is good now for us.
Many many many times companies have rescinded offers or laid off people with no appropriate warnings. I’m not saying you should be as ruthless as them, but you don’t want me to make a decision that you will regret. They have billions of dollars and can find a new candidate in no time, but you have only one life and your happiness is more important.
I would take the better offer, then send them the most professional and nicest email and say “Thank you for this opportunity, but I would like to withdraw due to an unfortunate emergency etc…” But know that you might never be able get an interview with Pwc in the future and that’s fine because Pwc is not the only company in the world. There are thousands of other companies.
Just in case the recruiter and/or hiring manager are d***. They can choose to turn on the Do Nor hire flag in the recruiting tool and no one can do anything about it.
Some people are understanding. Some aren’t.
Again, Pwc is not the only company out there. It’s not that big of a deal.
I think being transparent is better. Previously I had two offers when breaking into consulting after grad. I informed employer 1 that I had another offer from another employee which was better suited to me at the time and they thanked me for being transparent, and they could then look to find another candidate.
This is also a great tool to leverage since for some cases, they might even try to give a competing offer if your skillsets are very valuable to them
I would love for you to work for me as I’d capitalize on your insecurities 😂
Be professional. Tell pwc that you would like to refer few friends PWC if they allow. Tell them that You would like try to PWC later part of your career. All these may mean nothing! But take the offer which suits you better - always.
